One of the best ways to learn about how to implement the Eco-Schools programme is to see how it works in other schools.
Here you can read case studies from existing Eco-Schools, according to school type, theme and award level.
Monkchester Road Nursery School and Family Centre has an ethos of providing quality early years education where children and families are encouraged to care for themselves, for each other and for the environment. As a staff we have been greatly influenced by the Reggio Emilia approach to education which recognises ‘the environment as the third teacher’ (Grandini, 1988, p177). Acknowledging the importance of the environment upon teaching and learning compelled us to re-evaluate the whole school site and the learning spaces offered to our children. We also became committed to ensuring the sustainability of the environment for the future.
To make use of an educational resource that had been created by students from the school to raise awareness of environmental issues in children at primary school age. The resource is a book called “the Adventures of Eco-Man” which promotes environmentally friendly themes in a way that is both accessible and relevant to young people.
