The Eco-Schools National Exhibition and Conference 2008 was the biggest Eco-Schools conference ever held in England .  The Exhibition attracted over 1,800 attendees from schools, local authorities and a host of charities from all over the country.  We even had visitors on the day from as far afield as South Africa and Tanzania .

Busta at the Conference

Eco-Schools would like to thank ‘Busta’ our Compere for the event for keeping things going at a cracking pace and for helping inject a real sense of fun into the day.

Rupert Bear at the Conference

We’d also like to thank Rupert Bear for entertaining kids of all ages throughout the day.

The Event exceeded all expectations (we originally planned for around 800 attendees) and the feedback received has, on the whole, been incredibly positive.   Inevitably there were one or two difficulties given the large number of attendees, in particular the size of rooms booked for workshops created a few problems.  Thank you to everyone who showed great patience with us as we sorted things out.

We have already begun to plan for next years event which will take place in the Midlands and should cater for up to 2,500 attendees.  More details will follow once we have confirmed a venue.  We hope to duplicate many of the features of this years event and add a few new ones to keep things exciting.

This year’s event featured:

• A Presentation Hall with presentations every 30 minutes on a range of topics including the ‘Switched on Communities’ Eco-Schools Grant Scheme and the Governments Sustainable Schools Strategy.

• Ask the Experts surgery sessions for attending schools focussing on their challenges.  Almost all sessions were well attended with schools arriving promptly for their consultation.  Unfortunately a there were a small number of Eco-Schools which failed to take up their sessions, particularly disappointing given there was more demand for places than we could originally accommodate.

• An Exhibition Hall with over 30 relevant exhibitors including wind turbines and solar panels.
