July Newsletter

July Newsletter

Hi Eco-Coordinator,

Welcome to our July newsletter, our final one of the academic year!

First of all, thank you for all your amazing work from September to now. The current and recent heatwaves sweeping across Europe have once again highlighted the importance of taking action today and preparing future generations for the environmental challenges they will inherit. Each of you is at the forefront of these efforts, helping to inspire action and create the next generation of environmentalists. Thank you again.

For those that have already submitted an application…

Congratulations! The standards this year have been incredible and have inspired our team to continue improving and developing the Eco-Schools programme to match the amazing work taking place in your schools and nurseries. We are incredibly proud to play even a small part in supporting the efforts and achievements of your children, pupils, staff, and wider community.

For those that haven’t yet submitted an application…

You still have plenty of time to complete and submit before the window shuts at midnight on 31st July. To avoid any last-minute hiccups, don’t forget to watch our How to Submit video. And do remember that our positive assessment process focuses on what you have been able to achieve this year, rather than the issues that we’re sure you will tackle in the future.

…And if you’re still planning to complete a Count Your Carbon calculation this year, don’t forget to do so before 17th August, when our calculator closes for annual updates.

And for everyone involved, here is a preview of your impacts, so far, this academic year…

If you haven’t already added your contribution, do so by completing your application form before the submission window closes on 31st July. By sharing your achievements, you demonstrate to children and pupils what can be achieved when we all work together for our planet!

  • 475 settings serving food grown on site
  • 54k redistributed uniform items
  • 22k bags of litter collected
  • 6.6k habitats created
  • 145k trees planted
  • 468 settings serving more plant-based meals

A Brief Look Ahead to Next Year and Final Thank You…

The Eco-Schools programme will return in September with a range of new and updated resources, including new Eco-Schools Projects and Early Years Learning Activities, updated training for Eco-Coordinators, and, for the first time, dedicated Eco-Committee training. We’ll also be expanding Cut Your Carbon and enhancing Count Your Carbon…

But for now, we want to use our final newsletter of the academic year to thank you: the change-makers, impact-creators, planet protectors, and youth inspirers. Without your efforts, there would be less hope in the world, fewer empowered young people, and our schools and nurseries would be less vibrant, engaging places to learn, work, and play. You create opportunities for children and young people to thrive, build confidence, develop new skills, and make a positive difference. Thank you.

Have the most wonderful (and hard-earned) summer break!

The Eco-Schools Team
